How To Calculate UNN Screening Score

How To Calculate UNN Screening Score

As the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is coming to an end, it is very important to note that your utme score only will not give you entrance into the university.

Before you can get admission into University of Nigeria, you must be graded based on your performance in the UTME and SSCE. This Screening score issue began last year when the former JAMB Boss declared that there will be no more POSTUME in Tertiary Institutions. Different Institution brought out their method of calculating the screening score of candidates.
The Management of University of Nigeria, Nsukka also brought out their simple but reliable method of calculating the screening scores of candidates.
In this post, at the end of the tutorial, you will be able to calculate the screening scores of yourself and that of your friends.

How To Calculate UNN Screening Score

O’Level Scores and their Grades
A1 — 100%
B2 — 90%
B3 – – 80%
C4 — 70%
C5 — 60%
C6 — 50%
D7 — 40%
E8 — 30%
F9 — 20%

The equation for calculating Screening score:
Screening Score = (60/100 x JAMB Score) + (40/100 x WAEC Score).
Take for example that your chose English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in your WAEC, and the scores are respectively B2, A1, B3 and C5, using the grading system above,
WAEC SCORE  — 90 + 100 + 80 + 60 =330
JAMB SCORE — 290
Screening Score = [60/100 x 290] + [40/100 x 330] = 174 + 132 = 306.
Now that you have learned how to calculate your screening score, what next?
As candidates await the release of SSCE results, I advice you to anticipate success instead of failure. But for those of you that have already seen your result, this will help you know your stand during admission/screening exercise.
In the next post, I will also show you the disadvantages of combining results ie WAEC and NECO during screening process.

JAMB to Reschedule Exam for 2017 UTME Candidates With Technical Issues

The Jamb Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has disclosed that Candidates who experienced technical issues while sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, (UTME) would resit for the examination.
Th Registrar said candidates to resit the exams include those that were logged out by the systems and could not answer the questions. He also stated that the resit examination would not clash with the National Examination Council examination (NECO) scheduled to start on Monday 22nd May, 2017.
According to Prof. Oloyede, the hitches were caused by faulty cables.
He said, “When they talk about network problem, what they mean is cable. When they had problem in Dutse, I sent somebody there and we spent only N8,000 on cables. It does not cost money. It is because they put it on the floor and people will step and damage them. And on the day of the examination, that’s what was accounted for the hitches and questions not being found”

JAMB Set To Fix UTME Date As Board Meets WAEC, NECO and NABTEB

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has now concluded plans to fix the dates for the 2017 UTME. This was made known today by The Head, Media and Information of the board, Dr Fabian Benjamin.

Members of the JAMB board have been scheduled to meet with board members of WAEC, NECO and NABTEB on Tuesday, 17th January, to find suitable dates for the 2017 UTME.

Remember that the new JAMB CBT no longer holds in one day, and may require up to 2 weeks to fully test all candidates, who apply for the exam. This meeting will therefore help avoid clashes in exam dates for other exam bodies, a problem experienced in previous exams.

According to Mr. Fabian, this is the final preparation required before the Sale of 2017 UTME Registration Forms can commence.

We therefore hope that another press briefing will be conducted just after the meeting on 17th January, to reveal the possible 2017 UTME Exam Dates, and when sale of registration forms will commence.

Prophesies made by Pastor E A Adeboye at his visit to UNN. [VIDEO]

The visit of the man of God today was a great one. I do not think any student would miss the programme, an event that really changed lives. One of the things he said was that he does not know will be coming back to Nsukka  for such a programme. This is the first of its kind.

In an event that claimed many lives to Jesus.

He said " One of those dreams we call dream like miracles. There are miracles that when you get them, it looks as if you are still dreaming."

"I have gotten such before that I had to say to God 'God if this is a dream, please do not let me wake up'" He added.

The prophesy came after the statement above, He said
"The Almighty is going to give you the similar dream today" He added "The lord say I should tell someone today that very soon he will know that he came to Nsukka because of you" The people echoed a thunderous Amen.
Thank you father!

He read also about the story of a man in the bible who was paralyzed, when he heard about Jesus, wanted to meet him but the people were much, they had to climb the roof oif the building to drop the man down. When Jesus saw the problem and the faith they had, he told him, Man take up your bed and go and every one was amazed. The man carried up the bed that carried him.

He said, "Your miracle you are getting from here will amaze people"

See the reason why CCCTV cameras are needed in examination halls - by JAMB BOSS

The registrar of the board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, made this known to the public.

According to him, this is a part of the measures aimed at preventing examination malpractice during the UTME.

CCTV camera

“We believe that certain things should be done.

For example, we are conducting the Computer-Based Test, I’m not aware of anywhere in the world where you do the CBT without CCTV. If you are not caught during the examination, you can be caught after the examination because the whole thing will be under coverage.

He further mentioned that operators of the CBT centres who fail to comply with the order to install CCTV cameras prior to the examination may not be accredited for the UTME.

He advised parents candidates against falling victims to fraudsters as the UTME forms are not yet on sale.

Concerning when the examination will commence, the JAMB boss stated that he cannot say categorically when it will commence but it will commence sooner than later.

In his words, “I can say clearly that I don’t know when we are going to start the sales of forms. All we want to do is to make sure that things that ought to be in place are in place. I cannot tell you exactly when it will be, but I know that sales will commence sooner than later. Why am I saying so? For instance, we are meeting with the heads of other examination bodies.

“We don’t want a situation where pupils will be put under pressure to give up either West African Senior School Certificate Examination or National Examination Council or any other examination whenever they are taking place simultaneously. That is one of the things we want to avoid.

“Secondly, if we hold our examination at a time when students are not ready, the result we get is a high rate of failure. Our examination is a ranking examination, not an achievement examination. This is why we are saying that it is not to extend the validity because the test is to be taken just once.”

JAMB to introduce CCTV cameras in exam halls

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has said that all computer-based centres to be accredited for the registration of 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), must now have Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.

This was revealed by JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during an interactive meeting with operators of CBT centres from across the country, at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

CCTV CAMERA

Oloyede explained that this was necessary, to avoid errors of the past.

He also stated that the new process has made cybercafe operators redundant, as the computer-based centres to be accredited must have 250 desktop or laptop systems in a single room, with provision for additional 25 systems as back-ups.

Oloyede said: “What we have said is that we are in a period of change, and what that means is that everything we have been doing must be reviewed. Whatever we have been doing rights will have to be reinforced while what were doing wrongly will be changed.

“For the purpose of the CBT centres, we have to introduce the CCTV so that whatever that is going on at our centres can be monitored anywhere in the world.

“We are also standardizing the CBT centres so that all CBT centres will have 250 computers with 10 per cent of the figure as backups.”

ABUSE BY APPROVED CBT CENTRES AND CYBER CAFÉ OPERATORS

  •  It has been observed by the Board, that in the past, there were lots of irregularities during registration of candidates. Some of which are as follows:

1. IRREGULARITIES OBSERVED

i. Off-line registration means that candidates are given template form to fill and enter their details and the Registration centres would later enter their data for them on-line at a later time when the candidates were not present.
ii. Registration Centres did off-line registration for candidates and in the process of completing them on-line, mismatched their images and made mistakes in the candidates’ data.
iii. Registration Centres deliberately went to the hinterland to register candidates off-line in order to create Special Centres where they could further perpetrate Irregularities during examinations.
iv. Punish uncompromising candidates by changing their centres and/or institutions without their knowledge/consent.
v. Swapped and replaced particulars of uncompromising candidates with others and used money paid for other candidates.

MEASURES TAKEN BY THE BOARD

  • Payment for access code by Registration Centres has been cancelled. All systems in the Registration Centre will be enabled for the registration.
  •  None of these systems therefore can be used for registration outside the Registration Centre.
  •  Candidates will now have access to all the systems at the Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre for the registration exercise.

  •  This is unlike before where only one system was used by the Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre for registration.
  •  Candidates will be properly educated to understand that their registration numbers are private and security numbers which they must not divulge.
  •  Any candidate who discloses his/her registration number, does so at his/her own risk.
  •  An alert system has been created for notifications on changes in the candidates details at each stage of the registration process.

ACCOUNTABILITY IN REGISTRATION CENTRES

  •  Registration Centres are hereby urged to appoint credible staff to man their Centre to ensure credibility and accountability.
  •  It has also been observed that some Public Registration Centres refused registration because of “low return”.
  •  These returns are not low as claimed but officers in charge do not remit appropriately.
