JAMB Set To Fix UTME Date As Board Meets WAEC, NECO and NABTEB

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has now concluded plans to fix the dates for the 2017 UTME. This was made known today by The Head, Media and Information of the board, Dr Fabian Benjamin.

Members of the JAMB board have been scheduled to meet with board members of WAEC, NECO and NABTEB on Tuesday, 17th January, to find suitable dates for the 2017 UTME.

Remember that the new JAMB CBT no longer holds in one day, and may require up to 2 weeks to fully test all candidates, who apply for the exam. This meeting will therefore help avoid clashes in exam dates for other exam bodies, a problem experienced in previous exams.

According to Mr. Fabian, this is the final preparation required before the Sale of 2017 UTME Registration Forms can commence.

We therefore hope that another press briefing will be conducted just after the meeting on 17th January, to reveal the possible 2017 UTME Exam Dates, and when sale of registration forms will commence.

See the reason why CCCTV cameras are needed in examination halls - by JAMB BOSS

The registrar of the board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, made this known to the public.

According to him, this is a part of the measures aimed at preventing examination malpractice during the UTME.

CCTV camera

“We believe that certain things should be done.

For example, we are conducting the Computer-Based Test, I’m not aware of anywhere in the world where you do the CBT without CCTV. If you are not caught during the examination, you can be caught after the examination because the whole thing will be under coverage.

He further mentioned that operators of the CBT centres who fail to comply with the order to install CCTV cameras prior to the examination may not be accredited for the UTME.

He advised parents candidates against falling victims to fraudsters as the UTME forms are not yet on sale.

Concerning when the examination will commence, the JAMB boss stated that he cannot say categorically when it will commence but it will commence sooner than later.

In his words, “I can say clearly that I don’t know when we are going to start the sales of forms. All we want to do is to make sure that things that ought to be in place are in place. I cannot tell you exactly when it will be, but I know that sales will commence sooner than later. Why am I saying so? For instance, we are meeting with the heads of other examination bodies.

“We don’t want a situation where pupils will be put under pressure to give up either West African Senior School Certificate Examination or National Examination Council or any other examination whenever they are taking place simultaneously. That is one of the things we want to avoid.

“Secondly, if we hold our examination at a time when students are not ready, the result we get is a high rate of failure. Our examination is a ranking examination, not an achievement examination. This is why we are saying that it is not to extend the validity because the test is to be taken just once.”

MYUNNNEWS WISHES YOU A HAPPY MATRICULATION

Direct entry students, Do you also want to matriculate?

I congratulate you, the freshers as you celebrate your matriculation day 21th of January 2017. Most of you do not know what matriculation is all about. First of all, let me congratulate my Younger sister that got admitted this academic session, God did it.

NNAMDI AZIKIWE LIBRARY

Wooow! You all made it into the den of Lions. By now most or some of you must have been running up and down just to receive lectures, Shae, no be new thing, we all passed through that. But that not the case for now, cos after the matriculation, you will continue from where you stopped starting from your assignments, to term papers, to seminar presentation and so on.

COULD U IMAGINE THIS

The question now is where will I be celebrating my matriculation? Here is the answer.

For those in Engineering faculty, there is the new Engineering Annex, where you will be doing your own , also remember that you have to learn the school anthem  (Though not compulsory).

For those i other faculties, visit your faculty buildings. If you have not yet collected your matriculation gown, you do not have problem, you can always colect from a friend and take pictures. Remember to send me free basics when your parents comes.

I tell you, this is going to be the best matriculation ever!

How to calculate CGPA [Check yours now]

This posts will guide and teach you on how to calculate your Grade Point Average (G.P.A) and also Cumulative Grade Point Average (C.G.P.A). This is usually done when you must have seen your semester results to know where your stand is in the university.

What do I mean by stand? I mean whether you are in

  • First class
  • Second class upper
  • Second class lower
  • Third class
  • Pass
  • Fail.
After going through this post, I assure you that when ever you are asked to calculate your G.P.A, it will as simple as ABC.

BASIC DEFINITIONS

  • Letter grades are in alphabetical representation. Point weighting is the number equivalent of letter Grades.
  • Credit hours may be defined as the contact hours assigned to each course per week per semester.
  • Grade Point (GP) is the product of the point weighing and the credit hour(s) for a given course.
  • Point grade= point weighing  X  credit hour
  • Grade point Average in any semester is the ration of the sum of grade points to the sum of credit hour(s) in other words avarage performance.
  • GPA = Point grade/Work load
  • Cummulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is the up-to-date mean of the grade points earned by the student in the program of study.
  • However, it is usually computed for each Academic year.
  • CGPA = (1st Semester GPA + 2nd Semester GPA) / 2
  • Final Cumulative Grade Point Average (FCGPA) is the sum of all your CGPA divided by the number of years spent in the programme of study.

FOR EXAMPLE, THIS IS THE GRADING SYSTEM IN UNIVERSITY IF NIGERIA

% Scale Letter Point weighing
70-100 A 5
60-69 B 4
50-59 C 3
45-49 D 2
0-44 F 0

SAMPLE OF A STUDENT'S 1ST SEMESTER RESULT

Course Credit Letter  Point  Point
 Hour grades weight grade
GSP101 2 B 4 2 X 4 = 8
GSP102 2 B 4 2 X 4 = 8
SOC103 2 B 4 2 X 4 = 8
POL101 3 A 5 3 X 5 = 15
MTH111 3 A 5 3 X 5 = 15
PHY111 3 A 5 3 X 5 = 15
ENGR101 2 C 3 2 X 3 = 6
BIO101 2 A 5 2 X 5 = 10
PHY121 2 C 3 2 X 3 = 6
Total= 21 Total= 91
G.P.A = 91/21 = 4.333

G.P.A CLASS OF DEGREE
4.5 - 5.0 1ST CLASS
3.5 - 4.49 2ND CLASS UPPER
2.5 - 3.49 2ND CLASS LOWER
1.5 - 2.49 3RD CLASS
1.0 - 1.49 PASS
0.0 - 0.99 FAIL
