END OF COURSE REGISTRATION FOR 2016/17 FIRST SEMESTER






This is to inform all students of UNN that the portal for Course Registration for the First Semester of the 2016/17 session will be closed as follows:

Date:   Sunday 22nd January, 2017.

Time:  12 Midnight

Any student who fails to register his/her course before this closure is deemed to have lost the semester.

PTDF Scholarships in Nigeria & Overseas (UK & France) for Undergraduate, Masters & PhD


The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarships scheme is open for application for Undergraduate, Masters and PhD students to study in Nigeria and Overseas.

Application Deadline: 31st December 2016

Offered annually? Yes

Eligible Countries: Nigeria

To be taken at (Universities): Overseas and Nigerian higher institutions

Eligible Fields of Study: Mainly engineering, technology and engineering management courses

About Scholarship: The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a parastatal of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources established by Decree 25 of 1973 for the purpose of developing and promoting petroleum technology and for creating the manpower needs of the oil and gas industry through research and training of Nigerians.

Its mission therefore is to train Nigerians to qualify as graduates, professionals, technicians and craftsmen in the field of engineering, geology, science and management in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria or abroad.

To ensure a steadfast implementation of this mandate, PTDF scholarships is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for Overseas and in-Country MSc and PhD Scholarships. Awards will be granted for studies in the 2016/2017 academic session in the United Kingdom Germany, Australia, USA and France (Grenoble INP) as well as PTDF upgraded Universities in Nigeria. However, the Undergraduate level will be awarded for studies in Nigeria only on subject areas listed below.

Type: Undergraduate, Masters and PhD scholarships

Selection Criteria and Eligibility: Students interested in the PTDF scholarships must fulfill the following:

MSc (OSS And LSS).




  1. A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an Oil and Gas related field OR a 2.2 with oil and gas industry experience
  2. National Youth Service (NYSC) certificate.
  3. Applicants must be computer literate.
  4. Possession of O/level with Credit in English Language; At least C6 in WAEC/SSCE or C4 and above in NECO.
  5. Applicants must not be above 30 years of age.

Applicants for OSS must be in possession of the following:



  1. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (USA).
  2. G.R.E (Graduate Record Examination) (USA).
  3. GMAT – for Management related courses (USA).
  4. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (UK).

PhD (OSS And LSS)


  1. A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an Oil and Gas related field OR a 2.2 with oil and gas industry experience;
  2. National Youth Service (NYSC) certificate;
  3. Applicants must be computer literate;
  4. Possession of O/level with Credit in English Language; (At least C6 in WAEC/SSCE or C4 and above in NECO); and
  5. Employment in the academics in reputable Nigerian Institution, teaching oil and gas related disciplines;
  6. A minimum of 2.2 in their first degree and a minimum of merit as a second degree certificate in an oil and gas related discipline;
  7.  Submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than 5 pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology relevance to the industry and mode of data collection;
  8.  Possess a valid admission letter; and
  9.   Must not be over 40 years of age

Value of Scholarship: Full scholarship.

Duration of Scholarship: for the duration of the degree programme.

How to Apply: Application forms can be accessed online here using an ATM (Interswitch, Master & Visa) card or through purchase of a scratch card from designated main branches of First Bank of Nigeria Plc in all the 36 States and FCT, upon payment of a NON-REFUNDABLE sum of N1,000 (One Thousand Naira Only). Instructions on how to access the form online is clearly stated on the backside of the cards.

Applicants may please note that only those who meet the requirements below shall be shortlisted and invited for a Computer Based Aptitude Test, in the case of MSc applicants, while oral interview will be conducted for PhD applicants (full time and Split-site) on dates to be announced later. Following the aptitude tests and interview, successful candidates will be selected and awarded the PTDF Scholarship.

Applicants are advised to scan the following documents and attach to their online application forms:


  1. First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result;
  2. NYSC discharge certificate;
  3. WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO Results;
  4. 2 Recent Passport Photographs;
  5. Local Government Identification Letter;
  6. Masters’ Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants only); and
  7. Admission Letter (PhD Applicants).


PLEASE NOTE THAT THE POSSESSION OF A VALID UNIVERSITY ADMISSION LETTER IS COMPULSORY FOR LSS (UNDERGRADUATES, MSC & PHD) APPLICANTS TO THE PTDF SCHOLARSHIPS.

Things you need to know about UNN portal



These are the few things you need know about UNN portal as a student:
First of all, these sub-domain of the UNN website is mainly built for students of the university to give them a platform where they can:


  • Generate invoices (hostel fees, School fees, Laptop invoice etc):
New and old students can generate invoices online.

  • Check Semester results online
Semester results are now being checked online using scratch cards purchased from the school.

  • Reprint School fees receipt
This feature is made available to those students that have lost/misplaced their school fees receipt and want to get a new one.
  • Get acceptance letter from school
  • Update Personal Profile
  • Register courses
Course registration are done online. Note that some school do pay for course registration, but for UNN, its free and easy to register courses.

  • Get handbook for your faculty (NEW FEATURE)

  • Generate hotspot login details.
More so, the portal has been built using the Microsoft Visual Studio (web form) i.e .aspx, where Data of all the students are stored in the database for retrieval when needed.
It has green Header and also, easy to navigate.

How to Register or Sign up on JAMB upgraded website




JAMB has recently modified their website such that you have to create your account with them to have access to features as their candidates. This article is to help students familiarize themselves with the new development. Change has come...yess oooo. Stay around to get more updates.

For this reason, student should know how to register or sign up. Follow the below steps to get started:

1. Log in to jamb website www.jamb.org.ng.

2. Click on any of the services you want to use (example Printing admission slip, admission letter printing, checking admission status, etc).


3. Lets say you clicked on "check admission status", the next page that appears is a page where you have to sign in, but in this case, if you do not have an account yet, Click on "CREATE AN ACCOUNT BUTTON" OR type the address on your browser to create on and avoid all the protocols.(http://www.jamb.org.ng/efacility/CreateAccount)



4. Fill the spaces provided with correct information and especially a valid email where messages and receipt for every purchases you make will be forwarded to (TAKE NOTE OF THIS!) and finally click on the "SIGN UP" button on the left bottom.


5. After signing up, you will be taken back to the page where you can sign in. Or click HERE to login.

Postgraduate workshop and library training



The School of Postgraduate Studies University of Nigeria, Nsukka in collaboration with the University Library is organizing Postgraduate Workshops and Library Training for Master’s and Ph.D students. The Postgraduate Workshops are for Master’s and Ph.D students admitted in the 2015/2016 academic session. The Workshops will also feature University Library sponsored training programme for Postgraduate Students.

The workshops and Training is scheduled to take place in two campuses of the University as shown below.

Nsukka Campus: 20th October, 2016 – Postgraduate Workshop
21st October, 2016 – Library Training

Enugu Campus:  27th October, 2016 – Postgraduate Workshop
28th October, 2016 – Library Training

The details of the Workshops and Training are specified below:

POSTGRADUATE WORKSHOPS:

The Workshops which are mandatory for all Master’s and Ph.D degree students admitted in the 2015/2016 academic session will cover the full contents of the following courses:
  1. PGC 601 – Research Methodology and Application of ICT in Research, and
  2. PGC 701 – Synopsis and Grant Writing.

ADVANCED LIBRARY TRAINING:

Electronic Library Resources in Content and Introduction to Data Bases

Electronic Library Resources: Overview of Electronic journals, scholarly databases and the nature of access available for each of them.

Introduction to online Databases: Formulating Search Strategies

Formulating effective searches; Boolean Operators and Truncation

Using Turnitin Software for Originality Check

For plagiarism detecting

Introduction to reference Management tools, Mendeley

Downloading the Mendeley desktop and signing up for free account. How to create folders and sub-folders; How to enter citations manually and import citations from other databases; How to change the output style and using the “cite as you write” feature. Format: Presentation and demonstration.

This is to inform all concerned candidates that the 2016/2017 Postgraduate Admissions Supplementary Computer Based Screening Test of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka has been scheduled to take place as follows:

Venue:          Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, U.N.N.
Time:             10.00a.m.

Candidates are required to come with their downloaded application forms and white sheets of paper and pen.
Those who did not participate in the earlier screening test owing to lack of information on the dates for the screening test are permitted to participate in the supplementary screening test.

Further to our memorandum UN/SPGS/S.3/01 of September 08, 2016 on the above subject, I am directed to inform all prospective postgraduate students that the closing date for the sale of application forms for the 2016/2017 supplementary advertisement for admissions into the postgraduate programmes of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka has been extended to Friday, September 30, 2016.  Details of the methods of application for postgraduate admissions remain as earlier published in the Daily Sun Newspaper of 22nd April, 2016 and on the University of Nigeria website.
